The Readers Digest has a wonderful article about Harm Reduction as an alternative to 12-step work for women who want to change their drinking habits. I LOVE Harm Reduction--it's brilliant and really seems to work for a lot of people. http://www.rd.com/health/conditions/alternatives-to-aa-women/

How weird or "woo woo" is it? Actually, EFT isn't weird at all--it's elegant!
EFT targets the parts of the brain that hold on to traumatic emotional experience, but that don't process emotions or experience using words. (Geee...did you ever wonder why talk therapy never got you that far, even though you paid a ton of money and went to your appointments for month after month after month?) When you tap on the EFT acupuncture points (engaging your body) while honing in on what disturbs you emotionally, you send signals to several different parts of the brain. In short order, these tapping signals calm down the amygdala. The fight/flight/freeze response that maps over to trauma is released and it's like you set the "reset" button. You still remember what happened to you, but you are no longer on high alert about it. It happened, it's done. The past is no longer a part of your present. You're free! |
