I love telling my clients about Bikers Against Child Abuse, a nonprofit organization in the US that sends big groups of bikers to protect little children who have been victimized. We even use this group to go help my clients who have been trapped in the past. It's fantastic! Here's a great video clip.
Many (most!) of my clients were victims of child abuse when they were little. I use the Matrix Reimprinting EFT technique to go back to early traumatic experiences to change them in any way the child wishes.

The Readers Digest has a wonderful article about Harm Reduction as an alternative to 12-step work for women who want to change their drinking habits. I LOVE Harm Reduction--it's brilliant and really seems to work for a lot of people. http://www.rd.com/health/conditions/alternatives-to-aa-women/
How weird or "woo woo" is it? Actually, EFT isn't weird at all--it's elegant!
EFT targets the parts of the brain that hold on to traumatic emotional experience, but that don't process emotions or experience using words. (Geee...did you ever wonder why talk therapy never got you that far, even though you paid a ton of money and went to your appointments for month after month after month?) When you tap on the EFT acupuncture points (engaging your body) while honing in on what disturbs you emotionally, you send signals to several different parts of the brain. In short order, these tapping signals calm down the amygdala. The fight/flight/freeze response that maps over to trauma is released and it's like you set the "reset" button. You still remember what happened to you, but you are no longer on high alert about it. It happened, it's done. The past is no longer a part of your present. You're free! You guys are absolutely amazing! The clients who seek me out are incredible people, many of whom have survived serious abuse as children.
But, they are creative, resourceful, brave, and motivated to do whatever it takes to put their difficult past in the past. They love learning EFT. They find that it is SO helpful in taking the sting out of what happened long ago. Since I teach them how to do EFT themselves in their first session, they use it as often as they want during the week as irritating or potentially troubling issues pop up. It truly is transformative. They are improving relationships. Their jobs are less stressful. Their health issues are quickly resolving. All of this happens as they reconnect with their original creative goals and the full spirits that they truly are. It's such an HONOR to work with all of you! Thank you for coming into my practice and my life. Happy Birthday! Did you know that I offer half-price EFT healing sessions to clients and their friends for their birthday? It's my birthday present to you all!!
I'll even let you give a 1/2 price EFT gift session to someone you care about, as your birthday gift to them. What could be more meaningful than a new lease on life? Let me know if you'd like more details. Working at the Shoah Foundation for 8 years was an incredible experience for me. I directed the nonprofit's grant-seeking program so there would be additional money, besides that contributed by founder Steve Spielberg, to cover the costs of interviewing over 50,000 people who survived the Holocaust.
I'm so proud I was a part of this massive oral history project and had the opportunity to meet amazing people who worked there. Though it was painful, I listened to many stories of what happened to individuals during the Holocaust. Little did I know that hearing those stories would inform my later work in private practice in Atwater Village helping people who experienced emotional trauma when they were younger. My new love is the nonprofit organization Bikers Against Child Abuse International. As chapter groups, they provide protection to children who have been physically, sexually, and emotionally abused. They are often called by police, judges, and even by relatives of these children. They ride up as a big, noisy group and nobody bothers the kid again!
The organization was founded in 1995 by John Paul "Chief" Lilly, a Native American Licensed Clinical Social Worker working with abused children. I cried when I read their creed, below, which was written by the organization's founder: I am a member of Bikers Against Child Abuse. The die has been cast. The decision has been made. I have stepped over the line. I wont look back, let up, slow down, back away, or be still. My past has prepared me, my present makes sense, and my future is secure. Im finished and done with low living, sight walking, small planning, smooth knees, colorless dreams, tamed visions, mundane talking, cheap giving, and dwarfed goals. I no longer need pre-eminence, prosperity, position, promotions, plaudits, or popularity. I dont have to be right, first, tops, recognized, praised, regarded, or rewarded. I now live by the faith in my works, and lean on the strength of my brothers and sisters. I love with patience, live by prayer, and labor with power. My fate is set, my gait is fast, my goal is the ultimate safety of children. My road is narrow, my way is rough, my companions are tried and true, my Guide is reliable, my mission is clear. I cannot be bought, compromised, detoured, lured away, turned back, deluded, or delayed. I will not flinch in the face of sacrifice, hesitate in the presence of adversity, negotiate at the table of the enemy, ponder at the pool of popularity, or meander in the maze of mediocrity. I wont give up, shut up, let up, until I have stayed up, stored up, prayed up, paid up, and showed up for all wounded children. I must go until I drop, ride until I give out, and work till He stops me. And when He comes for His own, He will have no problem recognizing me, for He will see my BACA backpatch and know that I am one of His. I am a member of Bikers Against Child Abuse, and this is my creed. Here's the website: http://bacaworld.org/ Be Free from Cigarettes! I highy recommend Dr. Steven Gurgevich's stop smoking CD set if you're ready to make the switch!
This Huffington Post article is about psychiatrist starting to use EFT in her practice.
Caring Bridge is a nonprofit website where people with health challenges can post updates, and receive support, from their circle of friends. It's a wonderful idea and organization! Check it out. |
